About the blog

Ceph is a great but also mature solution for software defined storage and data services built by the community. It’s widely used not only in research and education but also in companies for internal purposes or for backing public offerings of data services.

Ceph and the use of it in production environments is the focus of this blog. Main use cases of Ceph as a standalone deployment as well as the use in other environments, like for OpenShift, will also be themes.

Some of the content has configuration examples. I’ll try to illustrate an ecosystem built up from the ground and by that to explain the use and options of the technology.

About the author

I’ve been working for 30 years in the IT industry and ecosystem and cared about customers from different areas of the public and private sectors.

Main focus in the second half of my professional life was on storage solutions.

Already before but exclusively only with the start at Red Hat in 2017, I worked on community based technology solutions for data services, mainly on Gluster and Ceph, and helped customers understand the different technologies, use cases, and technology challenges for planning future IT solutions.

Disclaimer

While some setup and configuration ideas will be shared based on Red Hat products, this is not an official Red Hat blog. Those might also not be based on fully supported configurations, sometimes due to limitations in the lab environment used, already.
